'Tidal Ossuary' by Julia Lohmann & Gero Grundmann in MAK Museum Exhibition, Jan. - Apr. 2013

A selection of works from the project 'Tidal Ossuary' by Julia Lohmann & Gero Grundmann is currently on display in the exhibition 'Isn't it Romantic? Contemporary Design Balancing between Poetry and Provocation', at MAK Museum Cologne. Curated by Tulga Beyerle, the exhibiton explores the connections between romanticism and contemporary design, and will be on show between January 14 - April 21, 2013.

Launched by Gallery Libby Sellers on the occasion of Design Miami 2009, and shown in London in Spring 2010, 'Tidal Ossuary' continues Lohmann and Grundmann's investigations into the contradictions inherent in our relationship to animals as a material source. The series of covetable vessels have been made from found animal bones, collected on the banks of London's River Thames. Lohmann and Grundmann's sensitive handling of the materials and exquisite attention to detail have restored the discarded bones into beautiful objects of use and worth. Indeed, as the exhibition catalogue notes, "'Tidal Ossuary' rescues the material from decay and gives it a new air of permanence".
