For his article about the current design scene in Europe, Volker Albus - Professor of Product Design at Die Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung - has observed a move towards design which takes into consideration issues such as sustainability, serial production based on algorighms and the use of self-constructed machines as completely new manufacturing processes. He identifies Anton Alvarez and his Thread Wrapping Machine as key examples of the conceptual, the heretically new and the experimental in design.
