Simon Hasan exhibits during London Design Festival, September 2012.

Simon Hasan is exhibiting several works with Designjunction at the Tramshed during this year's London Design Festival. Working in the territory between ancient craft processes and industrial design, Hasan's work - including his 'Bermondsey' stools, the 'Geno' seating series and his leather mannequins for FENDI - is imbued with an atavistic and tactile nature. The work he will be exhibiting also explores a manufacturing model that unites both traditional craft processes and the efficiency of volume production.

His newest work - the 'Hallingdal 65 Rope Bench' for Danish textile manufacturer Kvadrat - was developed using traditional rope-making techniques and the upholstery technique of Danish cord. As Hasan says, "I wanted to stay true to the traditional application of the fabric but reinterpret it through an alternative processing of the yarn. The project creates a new expression of hallingdal's familiar characteristics".
