Water Lily 1, 2012
Japanese architect Ryuji Nakamura completed his Masters degree at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music before opening his own studio in 2004. He works across spatial and landscape architecture, interior design, scenographic artworks and furniture.
With 'Water Lily', Nakamura sought to ponder the tensions inherent in an object that lingers between flat and threedimensional. Thin yet strong, the bench - hand-tinted in bespoke shades of coloured pencil - is characteristic of Nakamura's explorations of space and form.
