Hunting & Narud's Apex Tables at Clerkenwell Design Week, May 2014

As part of Clerkenwell Design Week 2014, Hunting & Narud were invited to contribute to a group exhibition in collaboration with the American Hardwood Export Council. Their brief was to produce a series of works that celebrated the breadth and diversity of hardwood.

For this, Hunting & Narud designed The Apex Table series made from American Ash, Cherry, Hard Maple, Red Oak and Tulipwood. Their concept saw turned wooden cones encased and supported by handblown glass vessels. The series highlights both the designers' sense for material and technical innovation and also inverts the status and use of materials. As Hunting & Narud have stated, "What we've done is flip the traditional role of the glass; usually it's used as the more delicate and decorative material, whereas here it is the container and the main structural support."
