Fabien Cappello awarded the Stanley Picker Fellowship in Design, 2013/2014

Fabien Cappello has been awarded the prestigious Stanley Picker Fellowship in Design for 2013/2014. The Stanley Picker Gallery at Kingston University provides a valuable opportunity for artists, designers, students, academics and members of the public to engage in collaborative practice. As a core component of the Gallery's remit, the Fellowship programme enables contemporary practitioners to research and present a significant body of new work as part of Kingston University's academic culture. Previous recipients have included Julia Lohmann, El Ultimo Grito and Ab Rogers.

As part of his residency, Fabien will be asked to consider the immediate and wider geographic location of the Stanley Picker Gallery. According to the Gallery's press release, "Product designer Fabien Cappello will be investigating notions of local manufacturing through a series of projects looking at the locality of Kingston upon Thames in relation to greater London. Cappello is particularly interested in the transformation of both salvaged and regionally sourced materials, previously undertaking projects exploring the potential of local manufacturing in other countries including Italy, Japan, Portugal and Korea. For his Stanley Picker Fellowship Cappello will be focusing on the public realm, using case studies that represent different scales and definitions of what 'Made in London' might actually mean".
