Paul Kelley's 'Chess Table' is a contemporary reworking of a time-honoured and revered design icon. Taking as its inspiration the sheer beauty and luxurious materials of Jean Dunand's games table made for Madeleine Vionnet in 1929, Kelley's table also responds to the demand for multifunctionality within one piece. As Kelley has said of the edition, "I just wanted to produce something that would provide several functions and yet at the same time imagine seeing Max Beckman sitting at it with his cocktail glass and cigarette holder. Functional decadence!"
